Nonviolence Guidelines

These are our expectations for participants in the Peoples’ March to the G20:

1. We will not use physical violence regardless of what may be done to us by others.

2. We will act with respect for the people and property of the local community.

3. Our attitude toward persons who may oppose us will be one of respect for their right
to hold and express whatever views they wish.

4. We will not be violent in our attitude, make hostile remarks, shout or call names. If singing or chanting is indicated, it will be in a manner consistent with the nonviolent spirit of the demonstration.

5. We will promote the safety of ourselves and others through our actions and interactions.

6. In our contact with the police and other officials, we will maintain an attitude of understanding for the responsibilities with which they are charged and be open in announcing what we plan to do.

7. We will adhere to the planned program of action, unless a change of plans is communicated to us by the organizers, in which case we will respect the suggested course of actions or leave the demonstration.

8. If an isolated disruption occurs, we will allow a small number of individuals to silently witness and/or deescalate the situation, while we continue the movement of the group in the planned direction.
